I'd like to take what Emilio wrote and modify to the following pitch: A young guy who has returned as a hero from Iraq now finds himself homeless, living under a bridge. He has an encounter with La Llorona in which he has to fight for his life, and ends up also regaining his dignity. Interesting question here...shall we make La Llorona evil or good?
