How about life as an intern? We can follow the lives of 3 or 4 interns who are trying to work their way up in the entertainment industry. We see the ups and downs of being an intern - the perks, the grunt work. They question if they're right for the industry; they vent to each other; they throw out the trash together. At the end of the day, we see them support and encourage one another. |

Intern: (Katlin O’Donnell) - The straight person. She's quirky and an oddball in her own way but her comedic moments come when she's dealing with the eccentricities of her peers and supervisors and reacting to their craziness. As a newcomer, the Main Character has great expectations for what the industry is (a la Mr. Smith when he goes to Washington) but quickly realizes it's not as glamorous as she had hoped. She wants to be a screenwriter one day and finds good material just by observing life at the company.
Intern: (Syd Goldman) Film school geek - he knows every movie made by Focus Films, and is a total nerd. Can quote Academy Award winning films, actors, actresses, directors, producers, etc baclk to the first ceremony. Charles Chaplin is his hero, and he is always imitatng physical comedy in stressful situations. This leads to some awkward moments for any beautiful woman within 10 feet . . . as they all cause extreme stress in that close of proximity . . .
Intern – (Latisha Lawrence) The Wannabe Star-She will help at all events (screenings, etc.) hoping to meet celebs and executives but will refuse to do work in the office like cleaning or readings scripts. S/he will only read scripts to try and get a part (ex. she'll find out who the casting director is and go try out).
Network Executive: (Charles Bradford) Stanford MBA grad with no people skills, stumbled into his position due to a great resume. West coast transplant who can't get used to the East coast pace, struggles with getting everywhere including the restroom/coffee. etc. Goes through assistants due to his lack of organization, relys on programming executive to have any clue as to what is going on at his station!
The Maintenance Man: (Lance Jeffries) in the office early and late. . . .cleaning up and emptying the trash. Soap actor who tired of the "responsibility" of being a star, he dropped off the face of the earth as a coke head (recovered) and now prefers copious amounts of weed . A wise, silent survivor of the entertainment industry, he is Yoda like in his advice to the young interns.

On Kaitlin O’Donnell’s first day of work, she shares an elevator with a cute guy around her age. She’s nervous about starting her exciting new job, and this causes her to ramble on about nothing until she finds herself asking the guy out to lunch. He rejects her, claiming he has a girlfriend. She stammers that she was just being friendly, but the doors open and he hurries off...to have a meeting with Charles Bradford. Syd Goldman introduces himself to Kaitlin, then asks, “What’s he like?” To her confused look, he explains that she rode the elevator with Rod Granger, the hottest new director in town. When Rod comes out of his meeting, Kaitlin apologizes for her weird conversation on the elevator and offers to get him a coffee. He accepts, but when she returns with it, she can’t find him. She searches and locates him in a storage closet, making out with Latisha Lawrence. He admits he doesn’t have a girlfriend, and Kaitlin throws the coffee on him. Syd comes by and gives Rod his own shirt, then him and Latisha argue over who will get Rod’s shirt dry-cleaned. Kaitlin realizes her behavior could be damaging to her career, so she tries again and again to make things right with Rod, but her screw-ups and bad luck just keep mounting while Syd and Latisha continue to fall all over themselves to make themselves Rod’s new best friends. The day seems like a total disaster, but Kaitlin gets to laugh it all off in the end when Lance Jeffries tells her that her elevator companion wasn’t actually Rod Granger...he was just Rod’s assistant--an intern like her. |
